Peter Mumford, Southeast Asia Regional Director for Economic and Trade Policy, United Kingdom's Foreign and Commonwealth Office

Peter Mumford is the SE Asia Regional Director for Economic and Trade Policy at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (UK foreign service), based in Singapore. He has been in this role since July 2012. He is responsible for overseeing the FCO’s analysis of economic developments in the SE Asia region, as well as coordinating its broader work to promote reforms that will enhance cross-border trade and investment between the UK and countries in SE Asia.  Peter also co-chairs the FCO’s technical cooperation programme, the Prosperity Fund, in the region.

Prior to arriving in Singapore, Peter was First Secretary Economic and Financial Policy at the British Embassy in Beijing from November 2007 until June 2012. He was responsible for coordinating reporting and analysis on economic developments across China. Peter led for the UK on preparations for the financial strand of the annual UK-China Economic and Financial Dialogue.  He also led the UK Government’s technical cooperation programme with the Chinese authorities on financial sector issues, including the development of capital markets and the offshore RMB market. Peter has also worked in Baghdad, Iraq, on energy issues and previously headed the FCO’s emerging markets team in London.
