Pertamina Site Visit: Ekowisata Mangrove Rehabilitation

Community enterprise initiative focused on mangrove rehabiliation and crab farming, includes a culinary programme with community-run restaurant, and secondary product development.  The programme has significantly increaased monthly household incomes for the community which previously relied on fishing.  The visity, hosted by village leader, Pak Made, includes a mangrove tour by kayak or boardwalk, and crab lunch.  Wear flat footwear.

Amit Vatsayan, Regional Manager, Economic Empowerment, Asia, at Oxfam GB

Amit is a thought leader on sustainability and inclusive business with expertise on the issues of private sector development and poverty alleviation, this includes the areas of business sustainability, pro poor enterprise incubation in value chains, Innovations at the “bottom of the pyramid”, women leadership, corporate social responsibility (CSR) and incubating public private partnerships in diverse sectors including agriculture, climate change, finance and humanitarian response. 

Amit has also supported research and advocacy in critical areas such as agriculture, women leadership, climate change and finance to facilitate and promote policy dialogues at national, regional and International forums.

Some key examples of initiatives include the development of CSR frameworks and guidelines for the governments in India and Sri Lanka; skill development in India and Bangladesh, numerous sustainable agriculture supply chain development in South & East Asia, international trade negotiations in India and with SAARC and inclusive renewable energy development in India, Nepal and Bangladesh, mentored and supporting financial Inclusion initiatives in India, Sri Lanka and Nepal such as developing innovative financial products and policies including remittances and flood insurance. Amit has an entrepreneurial approach and has so far set up three companies involved in commodities and textiles and has also helped in setting up the first cause related entertainment venture fund in India.

H.E. Le Luong Minh, Secretary-General of ASEAN

His Excellency Le Luong Minh is currently the ASEAN Secretary-General, term 2013 – 2017. Before assuming his post, he was Viet Nam’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs.

He was Viet Nam’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative to the UN (2004 – 2011), concurrently Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs (Aug 2007 – Dec 2008), and Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs (Dec 2008 – Jun 2011).

He entered Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1975. He was appointed as Deputy Director-General for International Organizations in 1993, and Ambassador – Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and Other International Organizations in Geneva in 1995. Two years later, he was appointed as Ambassador – Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations at Headquarters.

He was Deputy Director-General, then Acting Director-General for International Organizations in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (Dec 1999 – Dec 2002). He became Acting Director-General, then Director-General for Multilateral Economic Cooperation in the Foreign Ministry (Dec 2002 – Jan 2004).

Michael K. Addo, Chairperson of UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights

Michael K. Addo researches and teaches international human rights law with a particular interest in the broad area of evidence-based human rights law.  His recent work on The Legal Nature of International Human Rights Law (Nijhoff) 2010 is in this tradition and so also is his work on human rights and transnational corporations.  

In 2011, Michael was appointed by the United Nations Human Rights Council to join its Working Group on Business and Human Rights to advice and promote the implementation of the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.  This appointment is for an initial period of three years and subject to renewal.

Ma. Teresa Lopez Pacis, Assistant Vice President, Corporate Affairs, GMA Network

Ma. Teresa L. Pacis is the Assistant Vice President for Corporate Affairs of GMA Network. She spearheads the implementation of the Kapuso Network’s wide array of corporate citizenship initiatives. She also oversees publication of the corporate communication tools of the Network, both for internal and external stakeholders.

She has worked in both the government and the private sector.  As the External Communications Manager of Intel Philippines, she served as Spokesperson, PR Manager, and lead implementer of Community Solution, a CSR-focused programme. She spearheaded Intel’s Asia-wide and Philippine-centric communication campaign of its CSR initiatives.
