Syahrir A B

Executive Director of the Indonesian Mining Association (IMA), Syahrir AB is known for his effectiveness in responding to the government policy in the Mining sector.  

Leading IMA since 2011, Syahrir was a bureaucrat before entering the world of mining. Alumni of civil engineering at Gadjah Mada University, he started a career in the Directorate General of Highways. After completing his master's studies in economics at University College London, Syahrir then worked at Deputy Regional and Bappenas for nine years. Enticed by the regional autonomy trend that was strong in mid-late 90s, Syahrir returned home to Bengkulu and served as deputy chairman on the Planning Board, before then leading the institution.  

Syahrir continued his career in the Ministry of Home Affairs before joining an Australian gold mining company operating in Halmahera, PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals (PT NHM), after which he became a board member of IMA and head of the Forestry Committee. In 2011, IMA appointed him Executive Director.
