BUSINESS AND HUMAN RIGHTS CONSULTATION

The UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights: Implementing the United Nations “Protect, Respect and Remedy” Framework (Guiding Principles) outline global standards for preventing and addressing business-related human rights harm and have gained wide support by States, the private sector, as well as civil society.  There have been calls to develop National Action Plans (NAPs) that are consistent with the Guiding Principles.

NAP processes are indispensable instruments for the strategic and coherent implementation of the “State Duty to Protect”, and the “Corporate Responsibility to Respect Human Rights”.

This consultation workshop seeks views on what business and human rights plans of action and implementation means for various stakeholders in the Asian context, especially in relation to the Southeast Asian region.  This information will contribute towards the final guidance document on the development and implementation of NAPs which is being prepared by the UN Working Group that will be launched at the Human Rights Council in 2015.

The Consultation will open with a panel comprising business and human rights, and corporate and social responsibility experts, as well as members of the UN Working Group. Following the opening panel, there will be focus group discussions on the Guiding Principles and the NAPs.
