Philippine President encourages corporations to spend more on CSR
(23 Jul 2012, Manila, Philippines) -- Philippine President Benigno Aquino III graced the opening of the League of Corporate Foundation's (LCF) 11th annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Expo last 5 July 2012 at the SMX Convention Centre, Pasay City, Metro manila, Philippines. Speaking to over 300 leaders from the private and non-government sectors, Pres. Aquino encouraged a "spending war on CSR" akin to how corporations usually try to outspend each other in marketing and advertising. He thanked the business community for the good work they have done and encouraged them to continue their work, citing the 'Convergence' program with Nestle as a good example of how the government and corporations can work together to uplift the lives of impoverished communities.
Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) head Dinky Soliman was present during the President's speech and also spoke later in the event. Keynote speaker Mr. Luis Miguel Aboitiz (Senior VP for Power Marketing & Trading, Aboitiz Power), Ms. Camille Buenaventura (President, LCF & Executive Director, San Miguel Foundation), and Mr. Augusto Carpio III (Chairperson, LCF & Executive Vice President, Aboitiz Foundation) were onstage during the President's speech.
