EZECOM becomes the first Cambodian company to sign up to UN CSR initiative
Phnom Penh, Cambodia, 12 September - In August 2014, Cambodia's leading communications provider, EZECOM signed onto the United Nations Global compact (UNGC), the world's largest and most widely embraced corporate citizenship initiative.
Erna Eiríksdóttir, EZECOM’s CSR Manager stressed on the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) and to the international standards by leading the way as the first company in the country to be a signatory to the high profile global initiative.
By signing on, EZECOM promises to uphold the 10 universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption. Signatories to the Compact are required to annually report their activities as a commitment to instill accountability, drive continuous improvement and safeguard the integrity of the UN Global Compact as a whole. As a participating member EZECOM will also contribute to the development of a repository of corporate practices.
Mr. Thomas Thomas, CEO of the ASEAN CSR Network (ACN) congratulated EZECOM for its initiative. The business’ commitment to uphold the principles on labor, human rights, environment and anti-corruption said Mr. Thomas, “is a welcome development that will hopefully be an inspiration to EZECOM and other companies to actively contribute to building a more sustainable, inclusive and equitable Cambodia and ASEAN Community”.
Sarah Sitts, the Country Manager of Pact Cambodia, a non-governmental organization forum group empowering people to earn a dignified living, as she applauded EZECOM’s effort, said, “We encourage all businesses that are operating in Cambodia to mainstream social and environmental responsibilities into their operations”.
Participants of the Compact will be steered to develop a strategic approach to drive business success and to achieve its objectives.
The ACN, the private sector body established to promote and enable responsible business conduct among corporations in the region, had held a series of seminars on corporate social responsibility in the capital. The series, “Succeeding through Doing Good Business” with its partners, Pact Cambodia and the Human Rights Resource Centre, was an opportunity to share information and conduct dialogues to support businesses operating in Cambodia with the knowledge and tools to improve their impact and engagement with the Cambodian public.

With close to a nationwide coverage, the commitment is to use the power of technology to help communities thrive and enable people to achieve their potential as it expands the access to the benefits of digital technology beyond its client base to reach those in need.
EZECOM’s CSR initiatives have included providing free Internet access to tertiary institutions, schools and non-governmental organizations.
