In September 2014, the ASEAN Senior Officials for Agriculture and Forestry (SOM AMAF) endorsed a proposal jointly submitted by UN Global Compact and the ASEAN CSR Network on “Leveraging Business in ASEAN for Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture”.  Under this proposal, ACN and UNGC will collaborate to optimise the contribution of the ASEAN business community to realise the objectives of the Strategic Plan of Action for Food Security for the ASEAN region and the effectiveness of the ASEAN Integrated Food Security (AIFS) Framework.

ACN will use the voluntary UNGC Food and Agriculture Business Principles (FABs) developed by UNGC agribusinesses in collaboration with key civil society organisations  and experts, to build awareness and capacity in responsible agribusinesses across ASEAN.

The Global Business Coalition is being formed by major global businesses to order to make global food and agriculture systems more sustainable and to enable more actors in the food and agriculture systems to adopt sustainable policies and to evidence sustainable practices. Their main objectives are to leverage influence of GBC members in their supply chains, across markets, to adopt sustainable practices; and to develop and use common international sustainable agriculture practices regardless of corp, farm size or location. This Consultation is to inform stakeholders and together work on the next steps actions and outcomes.
