ASEAN CSR Network speaks at the Roundtable on the UN Guiding Principles Reporting Framework

On 2 October 2015, ASEAN CSR Network participated in a roundtable discussion in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The theme of the event was “Strengthening Corporate Respect for Human Rights: Roundtable on the UN Guiding Principles (UNGP) Reporting Framework and the Roles of Key Actors in Incentivising Improved Corporate Performance.”

Responsible Business Forum

The creation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by end 2015 is expected to bring numerous benefits such as free movement of goods and labour, greater intra-ASEAN investment and trade. Yet with the positives from a single market and production base, negative impacts can also arise, putting vulnerable groups at risk.

These issues must be tackled and resolved within a multi-stakeholder cooperation model. Hence, it is imperative for policy makers, civil society and businesses to work together to strongly encourage the adoption and implementation of responsible business practices or corporate social responsibility (CSR) in achieving sustainable economic growth.

AICHR - Training of Trainers for Journalists in ASEAN

thomas(29 July, Bangkok, Thailand) - AICHR successfully concluded its third Training of Trainers on human rights for journalists that was held over a period of five days at the Eastin Grand Hotel, Bangkok from 25-29 July, 2015. The programme was organised by the Representative of Thailand to the ASEAN Inter-governmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) and supported by the ASEAN-US Progress. The training aimed to equip journalists with better understanding on human rights as well as to create a regional platform for ASEAN journalists to share experiences and best practices on the promotion  and protection of human rights through their work.

ACN CEO, Mr. Thomas Thomas, was a speaker at the event and talked about the UN Guiding Principles on Business & Human Rights, the AICHR baseline study and ACN’s work which included support for a regional framework on business and human rights/ National Action Plan on Business & Human Rights.
